GRADING SYSTEM

Our grading system gives a general overview of each skate’s condition based on wear patterns and structural integrity. For specific details like cuts, scuffs, or discoloration, be sure to review the product photos closely.

  • Grade: Mint

    "Mint" Grade is the highest grade for any used skate. All "Mint" grade skates have been worn on ice from 0 to 10 times. These skates will still require some breaking in.


    Blade Holder: Virtually no wear.
    Toe Cap: Almost no wear.
    Paint: Could show slight wear, but generally perfect.
    Tongue: No signs of wear.
    Tendon Guard: Pristine condition.
    Inner Lining: Unbroken in, factory-new color.

  • Grade: Great

    "Great" Grade is the finest grade for all typical used skates. There are signs of use, but they are minimal.

    Blade Holder: Some inconsistent wear.

    Toe Cap: Some cuts, typically hard to notice.

    Paint: Some blemishing, generally not apparent.

    Tongue: No missing material, some discoloration.

    Tendon Guard: Pristine condition.

    Inner Lining: Potentially broken in, like-new color.

  • Grade: Good

    "Good" Grade represents the mid-level condition for used skates on our site. These skates will have a range of wear levels, but they all have very impressive structural integrity.


    Blade Holder: Some scratches, little discoloration.
    Toe Cap: Noticeable cuts can be expected.
    Paint: Paint still resembles original design, some wear.
    Tongue: Potentially some felt missing, guard intact
    Tendon Guard: Felt intact, like-new color.
    Inner Lining: Usually broken in, slight discoloration.

  • Grade: Fair

    "Fair" Grade skates have sound structural integrity, but lacks the visual appeal of Grade "Great" and above.

    Blade Holder:
    Consistent scratching and wear.
    Toe Cap:
    Noticeable cuts.
    Paint:
    Considerable paint wear, usually on inside edge.
    Tongue:
    Potentially some felt missing, guard intact.
    Tendon Guard:
    Felt intact, some discoloration.
    Inner Lining:
    Broken in, slight discoloration.

  • Grade: Worn

    "Worn" Grade skates show considerable wear, specifically wear that could be more than just cosmetic. Skates graded "Worn" are always very usable!

    Blade Holder:
    Consistent scratching and wear.
    Toe Cap:
    Noticeable cuts.
    Paint:
    Considerable paint wear, usually on inside edge.
    Tongue:
    Generally missing felt, guard possibly cut.
    Tendon Guard:
    Felt likely loose, some discoloration.
    Inner Lining:
    Broken in, some felt may be missing with slight discoloration.
